Our squad was looking great. Rehearsals were flawless.

“That was great guys. How are the auditions coming? Did you manage to snatch any new talent worth seeing from any of the transfers?” I ask Candice who is standing next to me tying up her red hair as her brown gaze tracks over the football field.

“No, but Jessica found two newbies, one was a gymnast.”

“Nice.” I say as I spot the unmistakable man that is my boyfriend. I give him a wave when he catches me staring.

It was freaking hot today. The boys must be dripping from practice. Their locker room is going to be steaming and the reason for that is not hot water.

“tell Jessica to bring them here after school tomorrow. Let’s field test them.”

When Tammy Odell attended Liston High Private in 1982 she came up with the brilliant idea called ‘A field test.’ Instead of the girls trying out with new moves ‘which anybody could learn WITH the right teachers’, the newbies would have to survive a training session with the football Jocks. Test their endurance, we test their mind. A strong mind-set has kept us raining champion for years. And it is the funniest thing to watch. I know I had to do it myself.

I remember that day. It was the first day Sabastian looked at me different. The day he looked at me as If I belonged to him.

Freshman year

“Dainy, you not listenin’ Sienna and Tash are joining us. Liam better not be there. Oh my gosh , did you notice how hot he’s looking. Fourteen is definitely his number. I am drooling right now.” Rae slams the locker door.

“If I’m droolin’ now, how am I supposed to concentrate? I’m sure Jace and Aidy will be there maybe they can distract him.”

I roll my eyes as I slip my bag on my shoulders.
“They are both in the team. I heard Liam is thinking of joining.”

She does a silent scream as her eyes light up with glee. “Did he say that.”

“Yeah, he also said that he would risk your brothers wrath if he didn’t have to answer to Kylie about why he was talking to her sister.” Rae cringes at that one. Yes, A Stone is a Stone. It is hard to be the youngest let alone a girl in a family dominated by Texan men. Let alone have a sister that every guy in our school feared.

Kylie Bray was our school leader and I wanted to be just that. To us ‘a very small group’ we knew her as a laid back, chilled senior who was dating Dexter Kent, a junior. Who actually made it past her brothers. Well David and Michael Stone. I don’t think he would have survived Kevin Stone.

“Ladies it’s go time, asses in the field now.” Kylie Bray screams from the hallway.

“Weren’t we supposed to meet after school ?”
I question Rae.

She smiles at me, “It’s Kylie, when does she ever follow the rules?”

I shake my head and laugh, as Kylie saunters off.

Two weeks in school and I am finally going to be a cheerleader. It’s exciting stuff. I will finally be close to Reagan.

We walk to the open field from the back door of our school. There is about maybe eight of us with the two already waiting for us outside by the benches.

It is good weather now, I know that is going to change eventually once ten o’clock strikes.

I see the football team as I get closer to the stands. They are huddled behind a tree.

“Oh my gosh, Is that Sabs making out with Rita, yuck, gross.”

My eyes instantly look across the field and yes. I would notice Sabastian from a mile away. That guy made me want to throw things at his head. I don’t know why I still even spoke to him.

I watch him , his hands are holding Ritas against her back. He can’t even kiss a girl without manhandling them. What did women see in him. Oh i knew. He was the epitome of bad boy. Add WITH his billions that he would one day inherit. He had all the gold diggers around school falling at his knees.

The longer I watch, the angrier I become. I don’t even think about it as I walk across the field. I certainly don’t spend an ounce of regret when I get to him and smack his head.

“What the fuck.” He spins around and seems to take a step back and into Rita when he sees me.

“What do you want Dainy.” He asks me in dreary tone that makes me feel small.

Rita with her black hair and caramelized skin gives me a wicked smile full of satisfaction when I look at her. SHE is tall, and a senior in the schools cheerleading squad.

“I already got it.” Not sure why I am hurt by his words so much but I spin around and walk away. I am half way to the field when his familiar fingers grabs me from the back of my arms.

“Hey, stop.” He says as he practically spins me around.

“leave me alone Delroy.” I yelp maybe a bit too loud. Another boy would take a step back or drop his arm. Sabastian Delroy is not another boy. He is a boy that wears a suit to school because he can. Sometimes it is bow ties and purple ties. Today he is in a beige linen suit, minus the tie and add in a white shirt and it just pisses me off that he has to be so cute and such an ass at the same time.

“Dainy.” Kylie screams from across the field.

“Let me go Delroy.” I try to free my arm.

“I’m not done! You can’t just interrupt me and throw that kind of fit and walk away Dainy.”

“I already did, too bad.”

“Sabastian move it.” Kylie says from closer this time.

“Give me a minute Kylie.” He says to her but doesn’t stop looking at me. At the back of my mind I’m thinking ‘wow’ did he just stand up to Kylie Bray.

“I’ll give you all the time you need sugar, but Ms Hallow here doesn’t get the same deal. Dainy, move your ass to the field, Sabastian get your hands off the frighten girl. SHE ain’t ready for your brand of crazy yet.”

“Not yet.” He says it as a promise, of what I don’t know. And I swear I feel the brush of his thumb on the underneath of my arm before he lets it go. I turn around instantly and run toward the girls and Jocks across from me. I turn my head and see Sabastian standing in the middle of the field. His hands are in his pocket and he is staring at me. A cold shiver runs up the arm he griped just a minute ago.

My phone beeps with a message and I turn on my back and slip it out of my pocket. The phone doesn’t budge from the said pocket.

“Need help with that?.” Mason asks, and I can’t help myself when

I start laughing, “That is the lamest, yet most fitting ‘Can I take your panties off’ pickup line I have heard to date and believe me

I have heard my fair quota.” I say all this while I wiggle my phone out of it’s snug hole, with my butt slightly lifted from the carpet.

He laughs and I have the most goofiest smile on my face as I pull my Iphone free. My eyes drop to the screen. My mood taking a nose dive when I see it is a text from my mother.

‘Don’t think i’d be home tonight. GSTD.’ GSTD. It isn’t the fact that my mother didn’t even say hi or offered a smiley face as mothers do. It was the letters GSTD.

“Hey Liz you okay?” I fling my phone on the sofa beside me as I hear Mason talk.

“My dad used to send me messages when I was on break at school. He always asked me what I was doing. Believe it or not but me and friends never lasted,, my dad knew and he always tried to make up for it. When ever I asked him what he was doing he’d reply GSTD, Got Shit to do. He said that my mother taught him that one, he said it always cracked him up. Today was the first time I have seen those alphabets in a text since he died.”

“I’m sorry about your dad.”

“Yea me too.”

“Since I got here , I cant stop wondering if my mother had anything to do with it.” I wouldn’t put it past her. She always had a knack for being in the wrong place, but so did my dad.

I need to come to terms with that if I am going to find any answers, he was never a straight line lawyer. He liked meddling in things that he shouldn’t. I mean he did after all marry my mother.

“Ok, where is your head at?” Mason asks me with a really charming smile. He has this square, very Masculine face and it isn’t the first time and I doubt it would be the last that my stomach flutters.

” Nothing of importance, did Dexter tell you what time you coming” I say abruptly, twisting this no verbal conversation to where it needs to go. An actual conversation.

“Yep, another hour. I wanted to talk to you before everything got so serious.” He says.

My eyes shoot up to his and he practically melts my insides when he winks. I don’t hide my blush as I drop my gaze to the carpet. It is a shame that Mason Bray is such a manwhore or else I would so get in there.

I listen to mason talk about his life. I can’t help but think of my dad, would he like Mason.

When I was younger my dad and I used to sit by a fire and talk about the uncomfortable topic of boys, now he is dead.

Someone killed my dad.

Somebody hurt him and I know my now dead aunt knew something about it.

My mother knows I am right yet she still insists that I am wrong.

Mason stares at me from his vantage point.

I say nothing, there’s nothing really to say.

Today marked a month since I’ve have stepped foot in Liston Hills.

Some people call it The Billionaire’s nest, the town for the rich and all their secrets.

Now it’s not just for the rich, but a town for the killers.

A week ago I couldn’t wait to leave Liston Hills.

The place reminded me of a Stepfords paradise, false, pretentious and full of people who thought they were made of titanium.

Look at me now, sitting in Mason Bray’s house, on his carpet while I wait for Dexter Kent to get here.

Two guys from the most wealthiest families in this place and the world.

The thought makes me laugh, I am the lazy girl from New York City whose father wasn’t born with millions but had to work his ass off to pay the bills and still got kicked up it with a bullet to his head, Bang Bang.

Yet, here I am, slowly worming my way into their lives.

My long legs eat up The distance to my door in no time. I get inside my house and drop my bag on the sofa in the lounge.

I grab an apple from the fruit bowl and hurry back to Mason who is now leaning against the outside pillar.

“Good to go?” He asks me as I stop right in front of him. His index finger pokes me so quickly that I yell. I instinctively throw the apple at him which he catches in a one hand grip. I stand gobsmacked as he smirks.

“Thanks for the fruit.” Mason says before he takes a big bite of the red apple.

Mason and I are currently sitting in his house on the tv room floor chewing popcorn and sharing school stories. After my long confession of how I got suspended in the 9th grade and failed the year, Mason one upped me.

“So wait, you and Ester got to the airport and then what? Did Diamond do it there ?” My eyes widen with interest as a lazy Mason lays sprawled on the wooden floor boards in the middle of the tv room with a cushion pillow propped up behind his head.

“Ester launched me, insisted it was some emergency, that was when Diamond rocked up, we came back here and then bang she kissed me, then she punched my nuts. Kylie and dad came home the next day to find me with the frozen steak on my balls.”

To all the newbies a big welcome 😊😁 and for those of you who have sent me emails I have read them and I am taking all comments into consideration 😊😁 comment can be emailed to shanaazk47@gmail.com

Now it was Monday and I have just arrived home to find Mason sitting on the bed of his truck waiting for me.

“Howdy there Ms. Sherlock.” He greets me with his new nickname as I jump out of my Camaro.

“Don’t you have somewhere to be like I don’t know, let me see, football practice? I heard you guys are playing against us this weekend.” I say as I grab my back from the passenger seat and slam the door.

His light green gaze wrinkles and it isn’t the first time I see the stark resemblance he has to his sister, Kylie, and father.

“Nope, we train at 6 am, not pm.” He jumps down and I get a full view of his sculpted legs in his light blue denim.

He crosses his arms and I arch my brow as he flexes his pec. Reagan Orniel is handsome and a total jock thru and thru and he is my cousin, but Mason Bray. Fuck me to blindness the guy puts Chris Hemsworth to shame. His dark rich brown hair is shorter than it was a few weeks back and the scruff on his jaw screams man. Not a seventeen-year-old preppy boy.

“So I came to pick you up. We meeting Dexter in the main house in an hour.” He stares at me intensely, my face flushes and I can my face, slip my bag over my shoulder and silently thank out creator for Mason Bray. Gosh, the guy is hot.

I have never considered myself as shallow or some girl who goes crazy over a hot face but now I seriously need to consider it. Since I met Mason I have had all kinds of crazy fantasies starring Mason Bray and myself.

My long legs eat up The distance to my door in no time. I get inside my house and drop my bag on the sofa in the lounge.

My night with Dexter was productive. When I arrived at his place Saturday evening I was a tad bit nervous.

I have not spent time with a guy alone EVER.

The most male contact I had was with Kyle Brandt, my dad’s clients son. We went to second base at the pool outside my house while my dad and his spoke. So believe it when I say I was tidal of nervous anxiety to be at Dexter’s place after 7.

When I arrived Dexter opened the door and took me straight to the kitchen where he had the centerpiece decked with a meal to feed a small army.

I finally met his sister and brother and watched in fascination as the two bickered about general Knowledge.

Dexter shut them both up when he integrated his piece of information.

Then I met the nanny who looked like she was a bodyguard rather than a babysitter.

Once we had eaten our five-course meal, Dexter and I moved to the library.

We drank half a bottle of whiskey and spent the rest of Saturday evening looking at all possible scenarios to why my dad and Gina’s death was related. At first, I was a nervous wreck but once he started telling me jokes and stories about him and Mason growing up I actually felt at home.

We ended up sleeping in the library on the black sunk in sofas and woke up this morning to Mason calling.

“Tad Presley, hmmmm, now what do I owe the pleasure of today?” The sarcasm is thick in my voice as the handsome richly dark skinned Billionaire playboy sits next to me on the cemented seating.

The guy is a critically important jackass at our prestigious school. He is on the lacrosse team because apparently ‘dum fool’s’ Play football but a real man plays lacrosse.

He is an egotistical rich boy. A cliché if I am speaking from the world’s point of view.

His dad was an engine specialist for Lamborghini until he developed his own engine with parts and all. Now they use it in NASCAR and other major races. He is also the newest man whore since my boyfriend changed his status from playboy to taken.

“I’m inviting you and loverboy to my house this Friday,” Tad says as he snatches my juice box from my tray and puts his chino covered leg on the table not too far from my food.

“Can’t, Reagan has a game.”

“The game is Saturday Dainy, besides I was talking about Delroy, Reagan is like a bull and everyone else is waving a red flag his way, did you hear about his and Delroy’s punching match? Heard Delroy won.”

He shoves the straw in my juice box and lifts it to his mouth. I get up fast and snatch my juice box back and suck the mango goodness down as I stare at Tad.

My smile is as false as my words when I tap his face with my finger and say , “And I heard Rita and Wendy got an s t d after a night with you. Now I could choose to believe these rumors or I could be a good Christian and remind myself it ain’t any of my business.”

His face tightens in anger and that is when I laugh and sit back down, “Now, back to that party, Of course, I would love to come to your party.”

“Pop quiz.” Ms. Nelan announces. A few of my classmates groan but most of us, me included roll our eyes.

I put my iPhone on silent as Christopher whispers, “Did you hear about the fight between Sabastian and Reagan everyone is talking about it”

I nudge my best friend since four grade, “obviously I had a dummy, you the one who told me, I just wish I knew why. I tried calling Rae this morning but her phone went straight to voicemail. If somebody knows it will be her.”

“Or you could get it straight from your boyfriend’s mouth, naked.” Christopher chuckles as I lightly punch his arm.

“Ms. Hallow and Mr. Hugh talking before a test will get you detained for a week.” Ms. Nelan yells from her desk as the entire classroom quietens down.

I glare at her as Christopher smiles and apologizes, “Sorry mam, won’t happen again.”

“Be sure it doesn’t, I want no pencils and books laying on your tables, IPad out, the link address and password are on the board. You have one hour, you may begin in five.” Ms. Nelan says.

It’s lunch break when I finally get my first stress free breath of fresh air.

Reagan is spending his lunch break with the football team preparing for this weeks game against Liston High Public.

I am spending my break with my feet propped up while I indulge in a selective variety of assorted fruits and veggies. My skin is soaking up the suns heat as my mind riddles with Gina’s death and Elizabeth’s connection to it all. While talking to Mason this weekend he let slip about Elizabeth’s dad and the possibility of his death linking to Gina Lornes. The problem with the story was Sabastian and my involvement with Gina.

Normally I would have spoken to Sabastian but after I heard about his fight with Reagan I am nervous and if I must admit dreadful to face him.

“If It isn’t the school’s personal tormentor.” The deep voice has me turning my head as I pop a baby carrot in my mouth.

I slam my locker door closed, and rush toward my science class.

Today is pop quiz day. The idea of the word pop is supposed to mean we don’t know about it.

But this is Liston High Private. Everybody knows about everything. Our school is like a pound filled with gossipers, trouble makers and divas.

Surprisingly the principal manages to keep our year exams a secret. (He doesn’t really, he sells our papers for five hundred dollars a page. And math he doubles it)

My best friend Christopher Hugh meets me at the door of our physics class while all the other kids rush in side, mumbling their hellos, while the girls giggle and bat their eyelashes at my best friend.

“Yo Dainy, how was the weekend with the infamous Madon Bray ?” Christopher asks me as I give him an one-arm hug by the door glaring at Ashley Herne as she passes me.

“Madon.” I snort at that ridiculous name Christopher made up in 8th grade when Mason punched our then history teacher, Mr Ricken after he told Mason to remove his entitled ass from his classroom when Mason told Mr Ricken that he should be teaching 4th graders history not 8th.

“Nothing to remember and I mean that in a totally grey way.”

Christopher leads me into the room with his hand on my back, and we immediately walk to our chairs that are four rows from the front.

“You telling me that the Madon Bray was actually tolerable? Have you been holding out on me? Or has my hearing finally gone awol?”

“I’m saying that it actually wasn’t that bad. Now back to more interesting topics, did you really shack up with Bronwyn and Billie Tanner?”

We sit down as Ms Carmichael and Ms Nelan enters the classroom.

“Pop quiz.”

While Monday came to an early start, I’m glad to be back at school. It’s the one constant I have in my life that remains predictable. The squad still keeping me busy.
The jocks , back to practicing for the national competition.
Reagan still his recently moody self. Christopher still my best friend who never shuts up.
Well, except for Sabastian, who is surprisingly avoiding me like the plague since I arrived at school two hours back. I didn’t know why.
Something is wrong with him. I am going to get to the bottom of it as soon as I speak to Reagan.

My weekend with Kylie didn’t pan out the way it was supposed to. I ended up spending most of my time with Mason, Kylie’s brother and while we never really got along , this weekend we got along quite well. I didn’t know whether it was because he was my babysitter. OR did he genuinely like me but I was glad to have the company. It was better than just staying at Kylie’s house doing nothing.

Kylie up and left, ‘apparently’ she had an emergency. But the weekend turned out pretty good until my return yesterday evening.

When Mason and I arrived home late last night, Jace was more than happy to inform us that Reagan and Sabastian had a fight. By this morning when I arrived at school it was all over the school.

While this wasn’t the most surprising thing, I can’t say that I am not hurt.
